  • Moving Tips Florida Residents Should Know

    • The most important tip for moving is to start as early as possible. Packing, inventory, and preparation can take a month, and performing tasks in small intervals can keep you from feeling overwhelmed.
    • If you have a family, utilize them well. Designate tasks for each person. Not only will this help alleviate stress and save time, but no one will feel like they have done an unfair amount of work.
    • Do you have a lot of complicated electronics? Please do yourself a favor and take pictures of the setup and wiring before disassembling them for the move - saving time when you unpack.
    • Make sure you file your change of address at the post office 30 days before you move so that mail won’t still be coming to your old address after you’re gone.
    • Be sure to gather all essential papers and records like transcripts, medical records, and birth certificates, and make copies. Put the originals and copies in separate safe places if something happens to them.
    • Create boxes you will need to open first in each room and fill them with the essentials. This way, you know what to unpack on the first day at your new place, but you don’t have to tire out trying to unpack everything.
    • If you are moving with children, be sure to leave out a special toy to keep with them during the move - keeping them comfortable and providing entertainment.
  • Cross-Country Moving Tips

If you’re preparing to move cross country, one of the biggest tips we have is to go through your belongings and make sure you only move what you need to move. Moving is an excellent opportunity to weed out items that have been taking up space in your home but aren’t used or needed anymore. When it comes time for the move, look at your storage needs and consider temporary and permanent storage for some of your items. Pack everything in sturdy packaging materials. Must-Know Packing Tips for Moving

    • The first things that everyone asks how to pack are dishes and other kitchen items. First, dispose of all perishable food before moving. The last thing you want is to unpack something in your new home with a foul odor. For all jars and cans, wrap them in book cartons. Any boxes, such as cereal, should be taped shut and packed in a medium carton.
    • Cups and glasses should be wrapped near the top, rim down, and individually. At the same time, other glassware, like crystal, should be individually packed in smaller cartons. If this is not possible, wrap and pad them on the top of a box. Do not set them one inside of the other.
    • Bowls and other odd-shaped items need to be wrapped individually. Plastic bowls can be nested together and put near the top. In contrast, heavier, delicate bowls must be placed toward the middle or bottom and individually wrapped. Face the bowls downward when packing instead of up.
    • For plates, saucers, and flat fine china, wrap them individually and then bundle three or four together. Stand them on end in the carton, but never lay them flat. Place these near the top of a box, putting packing paper or newsprint between each packing layer.
    • Clothing and accessories are usually the next priority. If you have hats, put them in hat boxes and then in a large carton. However, if you do not have hat boxes, stuff them with newsprint and pack them individually to avoid crushing. Clothing should be hung in wardrobe cartons or folded in dresser drawers.
    • Electronics need careful wrapping, cushioning and placing in medium or large cartons. Larger electronic pieces, such as television sets, computer monitors, and entertainment systems, will be padded by your driver and moved as furniture. If you have the original boxes for any of these items, it is best to pack them in them before proceeding.
    • Glass items or large, fragile items are best packed in mirror cartons. If the thing is small, it may be wrapped, padded, and put with other similar items.
    • Lamp bases should be wrapped, cushioned, and placed in dish packing cartons. The shades should be in boxes with only loose cushioning to prevent denting.
    • Dried plants, not live plants, may be brought along in the van. Individually packed in an appropriate size carton.
  • Benefits of Knowing How to Pack

  • How long will it take to pack my goods?

It all depends on the type of packing supplies you’re using, the size of your home, and how many workers you use. Other factors will likely take you anywhere from a couple of days to one week to pack up your belongings. For a rough packing estimate, though, see below:

    Small Apartment: 1-2 days

    2-Bedroom Home: 2-4 days

4-Bedroom Home: 4-7 days or longer

5-Bedroom or More Home: Anywhere from 5-7 days, or longer

  • Can I leave my clothes in their drawers?

You should take several factors into account. First, you’ll want to ask yourself if your dresser is sturdy enough to withstand moving and loaded with all its contents inside. Second, you’ll want to consider what is inside your drawers. If fragile or breakable items are inside, you’ll likely want to empty them from your drawers and carefully store them elsewhere.

  • So what can or can’t I take with me?

Regarding moving, it’s essential to consider what you can’t take along with you. While this is usually case-by-case dependent, here is a generalized list of items that should never make the trip with you:

    • Alcohol
    • Pesticides
    • Fire extinguishers
    • Flammable items (such as lighter fluid or matches)
    • Produce
    • Opened food items
    • Ammunition of any kind
  • Are your storage facilities air conditioned?

Yes! Our storage facilities are air conditioned.

We have access to a wide range of commercial moving equipment suitable for all jobs. Kit includes moving dollies, hand trucks, blankets, cranes, trailers, large-capacity vehicles, and more.

  • Should I use storage during a commercial move?

Storage is a good option for a commercial move when you aren’t ready to move all items to the new location. In addition, if you are remodeling your office or store, storage provides a temporary solution to protect equipment, furnishings, and so on.

  • Can I pack and transport private or sensitive documents?

Yes. Our team understands the importance of safety and privacy throughout a move. We can develop custom plans for any private documents and provide the option of holding them in our secure storage facilities.

It is common for our apartment customers to have the same questions. Those often include:

Can A Mover Transport Pets To A New Apartment? The short answer to this question is yes. However, the long answer could be more straightforward. It depends on the pet that needs to be moved. We highly suggest you move your pet into your vehicle if it is a larger animal, like a dog or cat. However, if the pet is within a closed cage – be it a fish or reptile – we can often move that with no concern. Be sure to articulate the best way to move your pet to the team helping you.

How Do I Move My Plants Into My New Apartment? In a similar answer, we’ll say that it all depends on the size of the plant. If the plant is a small house plant, we highly suggest you move it with you in your vehicle. However, if the plant is large and hefty, it may be beneficial for your movers to help you move it.
